The Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management offers advanced study relevant to the management of nonprofit organizations.  The courses are drawn from the Master of Public Administration degree program of the Hugo Wall School of Urban and Public Affairs. The curriculum will engage students in the examination and application of key concepts and best practices most effective in nonprofit management.  Those completing the program will be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit  Management and completion will be recognized on the student's official university transcript.

Who Should Enroll?

• Practitioners in nonprofit management who hold undergraduate degrees and wish to enhance their knowledge and skills.
• Students pursuing the Master of Public Administration degree who wish to specialize in nonprofit management and develop more marketable skills for employment in the field.
• Students in other graduate degree programs seeking to specialize in nonprofit management. 

What are the program requirements?

The Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management requires four graduate-level courses and their prerequisites from the Master of Public Administration degree program as outlined below:

Complete each of the following required courses:

• Public Administration 725: Public Management of Human Resources 
• Public Administration 865: State and Local Government Finance
• Public Administration 870: Fundraising and Financial Management in Nonprofit Organizations

Complete one of the following elective courses:

• Economics 663: Economic Insecurity
• Public Administration 845: Public Policy Analysis and Program Evaluation
• Public Administration 871: Community Networks
• Public Administration 872: Alternative Service Delivery

Students in the certificate program must earn a grade of "B" or better in all certificate courses.  No transfer credit will be accepted for the Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management.  Certificate courses must be completed within six years or less.  Classes normally take place after 5 p.m. on weekdays.

What must I do to be admitted?

Admission to the Graduate School is required either through a degree program or through Nondegree, Category A status. Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university and a grade point average of at least 2.75 in the last 60 credit hours of work, including any graduate work.  Applicants who are currently enrolled in a graduate degree program at Wichita State University and desire to complete the Graduate Certificate must notify the Graduate School and complete a separate plan of study listing the required certificate courses.

Applicants who speak English as a second language must have a score of 600 or more on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and a score of 50 or more on the Test of Spoken English (TSE) or the Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit (SPEAK) test.

Graduate faculty from the Hugo Wall School of Urban and Public Affairs at Wichita State University teach the courses in the Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management program.
