In the early 1980s the Center for Urban Studies initiated the Area Managers Seminars for city and county managers and administrators in the region.  The seminars offer leadership development on topics critical to their profession and are eligible for meeting continuing education standards of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA).

In 2002, the Center for Urban Studies initiated the Nonprofit Executives Seminar as a forum for heads of nonprofit agencies that deliver public services in Sedgwick County.  The seminar emphasizes leadership development and covers topical issues that result from the changing environment in which the nonprofit sector is increasingly engaged in the delivery of public services.
